What does a culture of evaluation look like in practice?
I've been thinking about this question - how would I know if my organization has a good culture of evaluation? Recently, in our sector, we had to complete our annual business plans for our funder. Usually, I would brainstorm with staff for activities and then, as the ED, I would take the activities and attach performance indicators and outcomes to them. This year, I asked the staff to come up with the performance indicators and outcomes, so they would have the opportunity to ask themselves "What would our agency need to show or demonstrate in order to know that we had invested our funds well in this activity?" I reviewed all the suggestions before the business plan was submitted, but we will review this exercise as a group so that we can all learn from it.
Tamara, including your team is such a good practice. I know that I am much more engaged in an activity when I have some ownership. Being part of the development means that I definitely want to rock the outcomes!
